One of our primary goals at Tenere is to promote and distribute materials from reputable and trustworthy sources to help educate our audiences on sustainability.

Tenere is a participant in a collaborative effort towards achieving a sustainable future, and therefore we do not just focus on the elements that directly impact the operations of our business, but on elements that more broadly contribute towards a common goal.

As part of our collaborative effort, we’ve listed out the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals along with Tenere’s progress relating to each goal. You’ll notice our efforts for certain goals are more elaborate than others, since they directly correlate to the operations of our business, and you’ll notice that some of our efforts are repeated for multiple goals, since they are all linked. We know that we need to improve our efforts across all the goals and we promise to get better as each day passes.

Activism - One of Tenere’s three brand pillars is Activism. This means standing up for the unheard and underserved. Our voices can be the catalyst for change and resource redistribution for those who need it most.

Programs and Donations - Tenere is in the process of setting up programs, where previously worn Tenere garments will be offered in two ways: (1) TeneRewear - this program will offer refurbished garments at a more inclusive price point and (2) TeneReturn: this program will offer refurbished garments to for free, allowing individuals with financial challenges to concentrate their resources on other necessities such as food and education.

Organizational Support and Charitable Efforts - For every sale Tenere makes, at least 1% of those proceeds will be given back to charities and organizations to help in our overall sustainable mission. These charities can be found on our product checkout pages and on our partnerships page.

Tenere Supply Chain - We are working on a program where we can increase wages through Tenere-specific bonuses for garment workers within our supply chain. Tenere is aiming to reach a point as soon as possible where it can ensure that all people that have any involvement with the creation of our products, be paid a “Living Wage”, which the Global Living Wage Coalition  defines as, “The remuneration received for a standard workweek by a worker in a particular place is sufficient to afford a decent standard of living for the worker and her or his family. Elements of a decent standard of living include food, water, housing, education, health care, transportation, clothing, and other essential needs including provision for unexpected events.” [Source]

Food Sovereignty - Tenere believes that food sovereignty, when members (i.e. consumers) in certain communities have control over the mechanisms and policies of food production and distribution, promotes more sustainable food production efforts such as regenerative agriculture and permaculture. Tenere intends to use its platform to promote these concepts especially in indigineous communities.

Regenerative Agriculture - Tenere is committed to sourcing its natural, biobased, and cellulosic yarns and components through suppliers that utilize or source from farmland and processes that practice regenerative agriculture methods. This means less damage to our soil, enhanced soil carbon sequestration, and overall healthier land to farm. As these regenerative methods and practices are scaled, especially within the food industry, they will help keep food (and other raw material) supply healthier and costs lower, making food more accessible to all.

Please visit Project Drawdown’s website and consider purchasing Drawdown book, which lays out the 100 most substantive solutions to reverse global warming, based on meticulous research by leading scientists and policymakers around the world.
